Introduction to UK Diving
On the weekend of 29-30th May 2010 the Dive Wimbledon Club will be runnng the second of our very popular 'Introduction to UK Diving' weekends of the year. These weekends are for divers who are interested in diving in the UK and have either never dived here before or have had very little experience of UK conditions. The aim is to introduce you to many of the aspects of UK diving as possible in a fun and enjoyable diving environment.
Experienced UK divers are also welcome on both days and can buddy up together.
Cost: £130 including equipment hire, boat hire on the Sunday and B&B on Saturday night on a twin share basis (Excludes air fills and also the dive site entry on Saturday). If you would like your own room then the cost is £140.
For those with all their own equipment the cost for the weekend is £90.
The Plan
Saturday:
Go to a deep quarry (Chepstow or Vobster Quay but more likely Vobster)
Receive a familiarisation briefing on the dive site including; toilets, gas fills, ID required, safety procedures, etiquette
Get shown the kit required for a UK dive; including different sorts of SMB's(Delayed Surface Marker Buoys) and reels and torches.
Experienced club members will give a familiarisation briefing on the dive site, teach SMB deployment and do four dives (time permitting) including SMB launching and freeflow drills.
Saturday Evening: Drive to Portland, have dinner and a sensible level of alcohol, briefing on what will happen on Sunday, go to sleep.
Sunday morning at Portland:
Sort out your kit, analyse gas mix (if applicable) and fill out log etc
Receive a basic run down on boat diving and general boat etiquette.
Two dives in Portland with Scimitar from their hard boat(Outside the harbour) or RIB(inside the harbour) depending on weather.
Get tanks refilled, have lunch, debrief.
Go diving again on a drift, hopefully with scallops.
